Trips in the mountains surrounding Geiranger

If you are a bit experienced and want some more challenge than just take one of the short hikes, we advice you to buy a map and take a day trip in the mountains.
Just ask in the reception and we will help you to find a nice route. Just remember that all these routes goes up to mountain tops that are over 1200 meters above sea level. That means that in the first part of the summer, in April, May and June, these routes are impossible to walk because there are still snow left from the winter.
The best months for these walks are August and September. Exceptions are the routes to Geitfonnegga and Børa which are possible to do also in July. Here you can see some pictures:

Laushornet (1413 metres)

A panorama picture from the top of the mountain Laushornet.
In the middle of the picture you can see the Geiranger fjord, Geirangerfjorden Feriesenter close to the fjord, and the Eagle Road.
This tour is quite steep and is therefore only recommended for people who have good experience with walking in Norwegian mountains.

Eidshornet (1629 m.)

A long and hard walk. It is possible to make it in one day if you are experienced with walking in the Norwegian mountains.
First you have to walk up to the top of the Geitfonneggja mountain, then it is a two hours walk up on the top of the Eidshornet mountain (see the picture below).
Together these two pictures make an almost 360 degrees panorama picture.

Geitfonnegga (1453 m.)

Maybe the shortest and easiest of the walks on this page. The trip from the road up to the top of Geitfonnegga takes about 2 hours each way. Easy to medium difficulty.
The picture is a 180 degrees panorama picture from the top of the mountain Geitfonnegga: a fantastic view over the Geiranger fjord and the mountains surrounding it.
Laushornet (to the left) and Børå and Keipen in the middle of the picture. To the right in the picture: The waterfall The Suitor (Friaren) down by the fjord, and to the right of the fjord: the mountain Teinnosa. All to the right is the top of Geitfonnegga.

Børa (1175 m.)

A easy walk from Homlong up to Homlongssetra and further up in the Skagedalen valley. From the valley it is a short walk to this viewpoint: the top of the mountain Børa.
A easy walk, but the trip to the top takes about 4 hours each way from the fjord. This trip is possible to make normally from the end of June.
A panorama picture from the top of the mountain Børå: View to the Eagle Road. You can see the mountains (from left): Teinnosa, Geitfonnegga, Laushornet and all to the right Keipen.

A break at Homlongssetra, Mountain Teinnosa and Gomsdalen valley i the background. View from Børa against the Eagle road.
